Since our founding in 1976, we have focused our practice on customized planning and design for institutional clients. We are committed to designing facilities that are more than just functional places and spaces. We strive to create designs that are suited to the needs of the community, offer an inspiring, engaging environment, and translate into meaningful buildings of lasting value. We have thus established a reputation for progressive, high-quality, and cost-effective programming, design, renovation, and planning. VMDO, a professional corporation headquartered in Charlottesville, Virginia offering full architectural and landscape architectural services, is the youngest firm to receive the T. David Fitz-Gibbon Virginia Architecture Award, the most prestigious honor given by the Virginia Society of the American Institute of Architects. The firm's work is frequently recognized for its outstanding caliber by the Central Virginia Chapter of the American Institute of Architects and the VSAIA. Our award-winning designs have been featured in national publications including Architecture, Architectural Record, Progressive Architecture, The New York Times, and inform Magazine. How We Work VMDO is a hands-on, service based firm. We offer distinctive design and personalized service to each client based on an in-depth understanding of their goals and needs. Project teams are assigned to each project we undertake, and the team members see the work through from start to finish. Our Principals play a leadership role in every project; their extensive personal interaction with the client and project staff insures the best design possible. The firm consists of a professional staff of over 30 people, including eight principals (Bob Moje, AIA, David Oakland, AIA, Todd Bullard, AIA, Joe Celentano, AIA, Joe Atkins, AIA, Terry Forbes, AIA, Ken Thacker, AIA, and Randy Livermon, AIA), an architectural staff, and an administrative support staff. The firm has 16 licensed architects. Educational Design VMDO specializes in design for K-12 public schools and higher education institutions. We design schools because we recognize the impact that architecture has on education and thus, we approach design from the perspective of the educator. No other firm in Virginia can offer the level of in-depth educational programming that we do. The National School Boards Association, Virginia School Boards Association, and several organizations dedicated to improving instruction through design have repeatedly recognized our projects for their response to educational program goals as well as for their aesthetic qualities. |
