press release VMDO receives Family Friendly Employer Award Children, Youth, and Family Services of Charlottesville selects VMDO as the 2006 recipient
April 26, 2006 – Children, Youth and Family Services of Charlottesville honored VMDO Architects at the 2006 Community Breakfast in Charlottesville, Virginia. Every year, CYFS presents two awards to recognize those who have demonstrated leadership in advocacy for children in the local community:
Cindy Nelson nominated VMDO, citing several examples of how the firm is “family friendly.” VMDO welcomes family members, particularly children, to visit the office and works to accommodate employees who have special family circumstances. Every year, VMDO schedules an outdoor spring picnic for employees and their families. The firm also invites children from the local office of the Salvation Army to attend for a day of food and activities. The firm is also very active in the local community and involved in a wide variety of charitable organizations. Recently, VMDO did pro-bono work for People Places, an organization that places foster children in permanent homes. Finally, VMDO designs schools to provide children with the best educational environments possible. In an article published in the Daily Progress, Bob Moje, President of VMDO Architects, was quoted, “To a large extent we consider the people that work here family, so we try to support each other in the effort to work and hold a job and give all the time that’s necessary to raise children.” Many thanks, Cindy, for nominating VMDO for this award.
VMDO Architects was founded in 1976 and is the youngest firm to receive the T. David Fitz-Gibbon Virginia Architecture Award, the most prestigious honor given by the Virginia Society of American Institute of Architects.
